![]() Clearly this species is not the Giant Anaconda. However, even the largest confirmed species of anaconda (the green anaconda) only reaches approximately between 10-17 feet (3-5 meters) long, though one report claims to have found one that was 23 feet (7 meters) long. The green anaconda is the largest confirmed species of snake (slowmotiongli / Adobe Stock) Most who claim the existence of the Giant Anaconda say it hides by camouflaging in deep waters. It is important to not confuse this reptile’s nickname with the Giant Anaconda being discussed here.Īnacondas are semi-aquatic snakes, meaning they exist on land but also excel at swimming in the rapid waters of the Amazon. The most common breed of anaconda is also the largest: the green anaconda, which has also been nicknamed the common anaconda and the giant anaconda. Specifically, there are four species of anaconda: the green anaconda, the yellow anaconda, the dark-spotted anaconda, and the Bolivian anaconda. All About AnacondasĪnacondas are a large group of snakes found in and around the Amazon rainforest in South America. If we look at the evidence, however, the claims about this legendary creature may not be all that far off. Though many claims have been made, no official sightings or evidence of this monster’s existence have come to light. Indeed it has been described as even longer than in Fawcett’s description, reaching over 100 feet (30 meters) long and residing in the Amazon river basin. To some, this giant snake is called Yacumama, meaning “mother of water.” Fawcett, but one whose existence, for now, remains unproven.Īccording to Fawcett and others in history who have claimed to see the Giant Anaconda, the massive prehistoric snake is over 40 feet (12 meters) long and at least a foot (30 cm) in diameter. Scientists also found fossils of prehistoric crocodiles and tortoises that Titanboa may have fed on in the rain forest.Everyone has heard of Big Foot and the Loch Ness Monster, but what about the Giant Anaconda? The Giant Anaconda is a fascinating creature first described by 19 th century explorer Percy H. The latest fossils were found inside the Cerrejon coal mine, in Colombia's northeastern region of Guajira. ![]() The previous snake size record was held by a python that measured 10 meters (33 feet) and weighed (403 pounds), the Smithsonian said. The size and weight of Titanoboa - its name is derived from its current descendant, the boa constrictor - was determined by comparing its fossil vertebrae to the radius-to-length ratio of living snakes. "That means that tropical rainforests could exist at temperatures 3-4 degrees Celsius hotter than modern tropical rainforests experience," he added, alluding to scientific theories that would have tropical forests disappear if global warming boosts temperatures by that measure in the future. "This temperature estimate is much hotter than modern temperatures in tropical rainforests anywhere in the world," said Carlos Jaramillo, Smithsonian staff scientist and co-organizer of the excavations in Colombia. From the size of the 1.14-tonne Titanoboa, scientists have estimated the average annual temperature in the tropical jungle it inhabited 60 million years ago at 30-34 degrees Celsius (86-93 degrees Farenheit). "This shows how much more information about the history of Earth there is to glean from a resource like the reptile fossil record," said the assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Toronto Mississauga. "The discovery of Titanoboa challenges our understanding of past climates and environments, as well as the biological limitations on the evolution of giant snakes," said Jason Head, member of the Panama-based research institute and lead author of the study to be published Thursday in Nature magazine. ![]() AFP - Scientists have found a 60-million-year-old fossil of the world's largest snake, a 13-meter (42-foot), one-tonne behemoth dubbed Titanoboa, in a coal mine in Colombia, the US Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute said Wednesday. I then have to go in to the Trash to select all the colored, “unread” spam and delete. The rest of the emails in the ‘SpamSieve’ folder change to whatever color relates to their degree of spaminess (which is fine). ![]() When I “Apply Rules”, the spammiest emails go to the Trash marked as unread but now colored blue or gray. These emails show up as unread and uncolored. These are obviously messages that SpamSieve is catching. I also have to manually “Apply Rules” to spam messages that show up in my ‘SpamSieve’ folder. When I “Apply Rules” they go to the Trash marked as unread but now colored. I believe these are server side messages that bypass SpamSieve because they’re not going to the SpamSieve folder. Ĭurrently, I have to manually “Apply Rules” to spam messages that show up in my ‘Spam’ folder locally. I have 4 scripts set up in this order: Server Junk Mailbox SpamSieve, SpamSieve, SpamSieve, SpamSieve. Michael, first off thank you for your timely replies - your customer support is very much appreciated. As it is now, SpamSieve does a great job but I still have to go through a number of steps just to delete the stuff. In a nutshell, I would like all spam, whether filtered through the server as spam or caught by SpamSieve, to be recognized by Blue and Gray spaminess and automatically sent to the Trash for instant removal. To have them treated like all the other spam and sent to the SpamSieve folder where they should consequently be treated by Spaminess and sent automatically to the Trash. What is your goal with respect to the spam messages caught by the server filter? This only happens if I select all the messages in the SpamSieve folder and choose ‘Apply Rules’. I’ve gone back through the rules and set up that Blue and Gray messages should go directly to the Trash. I understand that nothing is 100% but this is one way, though it would be a tedious way, of guaranteeing 100% of those specifically ruled messages were spam.Ī blocklisted message should go to the Spam mailbox and be assigned the most spammy color (blue). Despite the great job that SpamSieve does, with this feature I could guarantee that I never have to deal with those messages again in any way regardless of spaminess or any other factor. It would be nice to have an option such that I can dictate, for example, that "Every Message that contains ‘xyz’ in the Subject is immediately sent to the trash. There is no such thing as 100%, but there are ways you can separate out the most spammy messages and even make them go directly to the trash. I have gone through the FAQs, I just don’t think I’m grasping the best way to set things up so any help is greatly appreciated. I read about turning off spam filtering on the server but would that then open up the flood gates and pour loads more spam into my email? I understand that SpamSieve is designed to handle this, I just don’t know the best way to manage the software. I also get spam that shows up server side. I started blocklisting spam messages by Subject but for one, it didn’t seem to make a difference and for two, I read that I shouldn’t have to do that. How do I set things up so that messages that are 100% unquestionably spam go directly to the trash? I don’t mind reviewing a smaller list of maybes, I just don’t want to have to go through the hundreds I get throughout the day. SpamSieve has been great, capturing the vast majority and putting it in the ‘SpamSieve’ folder I created ‘On My Mac’ but I still have to go through it all to make sure a good message didn’t sneak in there and this is very frustrating and time consuming. It requires me to carefully scour my junk folder constantly - rendering the whole point of junk filtering moot.I get an insane amount of spam every day. This has driven me nuts for years and I'm finally sick enough of it to post a question here. Junk filtering is enabled, "trust junk headers in messages" is disabled. So it's not a GMail or 3rd party server thing. This happens with many accounts coming into Mail, including multiple GMail accounts, multiple accounts using my own personal domain, and my Apple-issued me.com account. I have to manually move them to my inbox every time. I can mark them as junk if I want and they highlight in brown as they should, but of course they're not junk so. They cannot be marked as "Not Junk" because Mail already thinks they aren't junk, despite moving them to the junk folder. Mail does not think they are junk mail, does not highlight them in brown, etc. ![]() These emails are not marked as Junk, i.e. I consistently have various emails coming into Apple Mail, that get moved to the junk folder. I've had this problem for years, all the way back to Lion at least. |
